I’ve been keeping an eye recently for a black bomber and after a couple missed opportunities I found one about two hours from my house. I went and looked at it yesterday and brought it home. It is a 1967 has a clear title which has been in the same person‘s name since 1968.

It is not running and needs a few parts, but I’m happy with the purchase. I’ll throw in a few pictures and then start trying to source the parts I need. The biggest two things I see right now are an instrument cluster and front fork springs and upper covers. The engine oil looks great and the tank inside looks good as well. The brakes and clutch and gearbox all seem to work fine with no binding or grinding.
i’m looking forward to bringing it back to life and getting to know the mechanicals of the bike.

I plan to start a project thread and post some more detail before I start working on it. Is annyone else local to Sauk county Wisconsin area working on a similar project?
I guess you posted these in opposite order because you DO have a project thread - this one. :giggle:

Nice find, aside from the extended forks the bike is pretty much complete. Looks like yet another Bomber with chromed sidecovers, and seemingly with some kind of modification.

Thank you. I thought the forks looked longer the they should. Do you think that they just modified the original ones and I can put them back to original spec with out buying a whole fork set up?

I suspect so, but you'll have to find a set of stock upper fork tubes. We have a few members here who might be able to help.

Nice start. The previous look of the sidecover I saw was an illusion because of the dirty chrome, they look typical now, just nice and bright.

It is cleaning up well! Will look great when you sort out the front end. What are your goals? A rider? Or a restoration?

Have you had a chance to see what carb model is installed? My guess is that they came from a later year, but I don't have much experience with the early models.

I plan to get cleaned up and sorted out mechanically and enjoy it. I don’t think I will go a full restoration. I agree I need to get the front end sorted out. I really don’t care for that look. I glanced at the carbs when I was cleaning it, but I did not pull any numbers off them. I’ll have to check which I have. They look nice.

This thread by @jensen would make for good reading.

This captures my overall philosophy as well, so I can appreciate that goal.

In that case, you might consider replacing the whole front end with one from a later CB450. That would likely be easier/cheaper, and gives you the option to have a disc brake up front if you replace the wheel also. The front fender does not appear to be a Honda part, either.

There's a motorcycle salvage yard in Appleton called MRC Cycle. I believe they operate an eBay store with the same name. I've only dealt with the eBay seller, but you might give them a call to see if they would have anything you need.

The carb model can likely be found on the back side of the carb body. Many early models had 14C, but based on the mixture screw I don't think you have these. Then 14H and later 723A and 723B. The photo below shows where the 723B appears on one of my carbs.
