Thanks one and all for the fantastic welcome. You guys have set up a wonderful resource. This is my 1971 (i think) cd175, the engine and frame number are in the 2000xx range.
I live in a remote mining town called Broken Hill in Australia.
This is my first project so it's very much learning journey for me. I know a little, but the more I learn, the more I realise that I don't know that much!
This bike had a rough upbringing on an outback property near Broken Hill. It got bashed around a bit and then apparently the owner brought it back to the dealer because something was wrong with it (I don't know what that was, I guess I'll eventually find out).
It's only done 6000 miles, but I'm suspecting each one of those miles is worth 20 on the street.
The guy who I got the bike from, his grandfather was the Honda dealer in Broken Hill back in the day. He poached it from his grandfather's shed, slotted a 12v battery in it ( ... I know, not good for the 6v system) ... he then hotwired it because he didn't have a key, and took it for a spin. He said it went okay for a while, and then it didn't .... it then sat in a shed for about 30 years.
I've fixed up the key wiring, got a key from David Silver, and cleaned out the carby. The pilot jet was blocked in the carby so I'm hoping that's the reason it stopped on the previous owner.
The tank is full of rust, so I'm trying the vinegar solution ....
I've got a 6v battery (a temp) ... no spark ... am in the process of troubleshooting.
Compression is above 100 psi both sides.
This project is going to take a while for sure ... and the end result won't be perfect, but the learning is where I will gain my reward.
