Hey all! Happy belated Father’s Day, to dads young and ancient :)

I got the Sparck Moto 12V Regulator Rectifier for my CB175 K6, and I’m having trouble connecting it. I’ve read some old threads that made the install process sound overly complicated. I’ve never done electric like this, so sorry for all the newbie questions!

1. On a thread on the old site, Matt said the new connector should “plug into the connector leftover after removing the old rectifier.” However that plastic connector has female spade connectors. So does the new connector from Sparck. So it looks like I should use the included male plastic connector and male spades from Sparck, right?

above left: wires from old rectifier are pretty worn...

On the Sparck reg/rec, can I pull the female spades out of the plastic connector? And uncrimp the spade connectors from the wire? Or do I have to cut them and strip more wire? Not a big deal, cause I’ll have to extend the wires on the Sparck reg/rec by a few inches anyway. The old connector won’t reach the new one right now, if I want to mount it where the old regulator was.

2. After that, he said to connect the remaining black wire (from the new reg rec) “to any other black wire in the harness (usually the one that remains after removing the old regulator).” Easy one.

3. I was also told to splice another ground wire, from the green wire on the new reg/rec, to bare metal on the bike frame. Does this mean splitting the green wire, so it forks to two wires? So one goes into the plastic connector, and one grounds to metal on the bike?

4. Finally, I was looking at wire splicing methods. I don’t have any tools like crimpers or soldering guns or heat guns, so I’m looking for a method for extending the wires that won’t cost too much. Any recommendations? Can I get away with wire caps, just electric tape, or should I buy a heat gun and some “heat shrink self solder connectors”?

Thanks for reading all that and thanks for any help!

I talked to Matt at Sparck, and he answered all of my questions. I have to swap the female plastic connector for the included male one. I’m also going to solder an additional wire onto the green wire of the new reg/reg, which will ground to the metal frame. Highly recommend Sparck so far!

Yep, we like him not only because his products are good and affordable, but because he gives great support as well. And thanks for the "ancient" shout out. (y)
