Just got the phone call no one ever wants. Steve's wife Julie called to let me know Steve passed away on Friday.

As J-T mentions below for those who may not be aware, Steve was a founding member of the original HondaTwins forum and was also a founding member of VHT.

https://www.vintagehondatwins.com/forums/threads/welcome-to-vintagehondatwins.7/

Knowing that Steve helped many who may not have ever been members of either HT or VHT because his phone number was so publicly available, I posted this today at Reddit as well.

Sad to hear this. He was an inspiration to me when I first started out with my CL175 rebuild, still remember his treatise on carb balancing, general fount of information for the 175s, and I guess all the other Honda models.

OMG, sad news indeed. Thoughts, prayers and condolences for family. We were lucky and privileged to have him as a part of VHT team.

Sorry to hear. For those who may not know Steve was a founding member of the original HondaTwins, possibly the last of that small group who was still active here. It was he who recruited me to become a moderator. His legacy of sharing his knowledge will live on at VHT.

@66Sprint was among a small handful of usernames I recognized as a lurker on HT before signing up there and here on the same day in 2021. As I was steered towards this forum, one of the things I asked was whether 66Sprint was part of the team.

It meant something to me when he responded to one of my posts and I'm grateful to have interacted with him off and on for these few years.

He gave a lot of his time to others, in typed text and over the phone, and I hope that his legacy will be carried forward by our new members as it has been by so many among the current membership.

Sad news indeed, he helped very many Honda twin owners stay on the road.

Well damn that sucks. I never had the pleasure of speaking with him but I certainly scavenged a lot of his advice on other threads.

I never had any interaction with Steve on either forum and didn't realize he was a founding member of both forums. I did see him on the other forum years ago as a poster. It is sad when you loose a valuable member of the community. From what everyone has noted he was very knowledgeable and generous with both his time and experience.
The link in post #3 above from RobMan took me to the technical section where I discovered some info on the CL160 stator issue I am chasing down. Steve solved the meaning of the code SE and DY on the back of the CL160 ignition switch.

So even now Steve is and will still be helping people long after he is gone.

I cannot believe you never saw his posts and profile and wondered who he was, he was ubiquitous at HT for years and still leads in total posts there by a wide margin despite having not posted there in about 5+ years. Not to mention the Meet The Forum Management section of the member introductions where he posted along with the rest of the staff when we opened VHT.

Well like many on these forums tunnel vision is a reality with focus mostly on what is personally interesting, or what we are working on bike wise. I have never really looked around this forum that much either into the technical section. I just discovered from RobMan's link to Steve's postings and lessons on here yesterday. I am not really a computer guy and stick with what I know mostly, which is not that much with software stuff.

On the other forum I was rebuilding and cleaning mostly the single and dual Honda carbs from small cc bikes for members. I didn't really use the forum for more than some basic interaction. Once it was bought out by VertiScope I wasn't a regular member on there anymore.
I found this site by accident after you fellows had already had a year or so under operation already. I recognized a few names on this site from the old site. I didn't really see Sprints posts back then, although it seems he was quite active earlier on here and over there too.

Clearly he was quite loved and was very involved on both forums and it has been noted he will be missed by many members. I missed out by not getting more involved and reading some of his posts and knowledge.

I only found out today when I saw your post on Reddit.
Very sorry to hear about Steve, we had some interesting messages back and fore over the years.
I'm finally in 'Code Compliance' so don't have to spend as much time in yard, it's a weight off my mind.
Altamonte was going to charge $155.00 A DAY for non compliance.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I haven't been active here much over the past while but it was only a couple of days ago I was wondering how Steve was doing. I was going over his clutch adjustment procedure steps that I saved from the old HT site. Absolute fountain of knowledge and so free with his time. I remember back on the old site when I was Admin, I added a new title to the site of Sensei just for Steve. No one encapsulated that title like he did.

Will be surely missed, but his spirit will surely live on in the heartbeat of every old Honda twin that sees extra life because of his generosity with his knowledge.

Just a thought, I know Steve willingly posted his phone number, and possibly his email. Not sure if he did here as well, but if so may be a good idea to have a scan through and remove them.

Thanks Perry, though it's inevitable for us all it is still a sobering moment when you learn of someone's passing. His generosity touched a lot of people.

I already did on the very day of the post, last thing we need is people calling his phone while Julie is using it to call those in his contacts as she did for me.

RIP Steve. I was concerned if he was doing OK as I hadn't seen him logon to his account or post in quite a while. I talked with him a few times on the phone and he was very passionate and knowledgeable on these bikes. Thankfully his posts are archived here for others to learn from and to keep the legacy alive.

The first vintage Honda I acquired…my1971 CB350 required the front wheel to come off for servicing the brakes. I ask a question on “the old forum” about correct reinstallation of the wheel. With in moments Steve responded with an emphatic “call me NOW !”…. Thinking I had incorrectly installed the front of the bike and was about to be riding on one wheel !!! I called and he so kindly talked me through correct installation of wheel, axle and brakes. What an amazing resource and person he was to this forum and others.
He will be missed.

Our brother and friend must have passed on May 15, 2026. Steve was always such a joy to talk to, so full of knowledge and experience but also very creative in his approach to problem solving. He came up with the idea to use a roll-pin to fix the over advance on my Dream's advancer. It's still working and so is his wisdom here. Our collected fine old Hondas is backed up by this forum's collection of fine old fellows and Steve is a great example to follow. We are all the richer in what matters most. Thanks Steve.

Just seen this. Oh my. Steve was a great guy. It was one of the very good reasons I was on Honda Twins, and why I was in on VHT from the beginning. He will be missed in the Honda Twins world. I missed meeting him personally. I used to travel a lot for work, and passed his Home (well, nearby) in my travels. The 2 times I was going to stop by, he was not available. Mortality sometimes sucks.
