I'm starting a new Buco project. I'm intrigued by a recent find, a top lid lock type Twinmaster saddlebag. The bags themselves are in great shape compared to the ones I saved for the 62. But these bags caught my eye and for low money. I found cabinet locks to fit (5/8" long) for under 15$ that fit perfectly, although one bag lid needs repair around the lock area, pics to come.
For those (like me up to this point) who strive to buy hardware and old locks with mystery keys, possible retro fitting the lid with a cabinet lock eliminates clumsy, bulky and beat up hardware and smooths out the saddlebag,
Just a couple of pics for now showing the bag lock opening, new lock and fit and the hardware no longer needed when finished. This project will be slow to start and involve some finesse learned from the red bags on the 62.
It never dawned on me to just retrofit a cabinet lock in the lid of the old bags that I have worked on for years. Old too fast, smart too late, I guess.
