Hi everyone,
(I've attached an assembly image to help me describe what I'm working with here.)
I've been having an issue with the return spring (6) coming unseated from its little hole in the kick start spindle/shaft (4). From what I can tell, the side that hooks onto the little ledge in the outer casing is not the issue, but instead the end of the spring that sits in the spindle just gets pulled out during a kick, leaving the lever dangling.
I have a feeling that the main issue is that I don't fully understand how the pieces of this assembly are supposed to fit together, mainly what exactly the collar (5) is supposed to be doing.
Also, it looks like someone had previously replaced the collar with a similarly-shaped piece of metal. Are the ridges in the collar meant to support the inner-end of the spring somehow?
[Edit] My Clymer manual doesn’t give much information on this.

I don't have pictures of the actual parts at the moment. It's been a while since I've worked on this so I haven't been in the mood to split the case recently, but I can if pictures are needed.

Thanks,
-Flynn
