Been putting off asking people's thoughts as to whether this is genuine or not, because I paid up for it. Basically, I had a certain budget in mind when I went to buy my Ca77, and I ended up getting it for less and had some money left over. So I bought nice things for it. This was one thing.

Details: Purchased off eBay. The seller seemed to be very reputable. The many other items they sold felt very genuine in that many exhibited age. Came from Nebraska.

I really like it and I think it'll look amazing on my Dream, but I wanted to know the truth before committing. Also, if it is genuine, any tips for installing would be appreciated.

Lastly, the picture of the accessory catalog came from the vendor.
So, am I a dunce or what?

It's certainly interesting. I've never seen anything like it on a Dream, though I can count the number of Dreams I've seen in person during my time at Honda shops back then on both hands so I'm far from knowledgeable about it. I'd imagine Bill Silver would know if it is a legitimate Honda accessory or not.

I don't think it's a very common accessory. Thanks for cc'ing Mr. Honda, I'm sure if anyone knows, it's him.

Actually, I didn't cc him, I gave you the link to his profile so you can PM him if you want. From those pictures you found, maybe it was a Honda accessory.

Pretty bike. Nice touch.

Thank you! A next step might be making sense of my battery compartment, which I feel like you might have some helpful insight towards. Mine was originally missing a top holder tray so I bought one and I can't make sense of how it all fits together.

You have a '64, as do I. It 'should' be the earlier version. There is some fog on exactly when the change occurred but sometime in '64. The change involved: different battery shape, different side cover, different batt/tool tray. The earlier ones were wider (viewed from the side) and thinner depth. You should post a pic of your bike with side cover off and your 'new' tray.
When I looked for an early tray, I was shocked at the silly $ wanted. My plan is to fabricate my own.

I'll take a picture. My guess is that either I have the wrong tray, or too large a battery. The tray I bought off eBay and is a mess but I was hoping it would still function.

Took pictures on the inside of the battery compartment. When I've tried installing the battery tray in the past, I wasn't able to get the compartment cover back on. The compartment area and the tray are both pretty thrashed, but everything works fine. I don't even really need the battery tray, but I did spend money on it and it would be nice to get it installed

You have the wrong battery/tool tray. It is a late style and while it will bolt up, it sticks out too far to close the cover. Both trays have the same bolt spacing (10 3/16") but are different in how thick (how far it stands out from the side of the bike) they are.

The early trays are hard to find and very expensive. My plan is to make one.

The covers are different too and not interchangable. The black one is a late and the blue an early.

I'd be glad to make you one too, if it works out.

Another thought is too modify the one you have. It is too wide to close the cover. If you cut off the edge and a bit more of the part that hangs over the side facing you, or rebend that edge so that the cover closes, it might work. I normally would not alter a stock part, due to the increasing scarcity, but that one has already been cut on a bit.

I was just thinking something similar. Maybe I take half an inch off the side and hammer down the bit that points downward. You're right that it would be borderline sacrilege to do that to a stock part but this tray is in rough shape and it would be nice to use it. Hopefully I can do a good job with it so it doesn't look homemade. I have tin snips and a file. Maybe enough to make it happen?
