Bike odometer only shows 6400 miles. I am not a master mechanic and this bike is new to me so I am not certain what was done before but I am in a journey to getting it to run right.
It was "restored" before i bought it. They used cheap carbs (2 right carbs). Im beginning to wonder if they are even the correct size or if the carb sleeves are the correct size. I have confirmed they are both right sleeves (flat end towards the engine and cut away towards intake leaving the idle speed screw cut out in place for them.) But even with play in the throttle and both idle screws backed out to beginning of threads (i.e. not lifting the carb sleeves at all) it is idling at 3000 rpms and not dieing. Air mixture set to factory 1 1/4 turn out from stop.
I checked/serviced the ignition timing but it's still running rough and bogging down especially in higher gears under load.
I gapped the sparks and have already changed the oil and cleaned the filter. Did the tappets and cam spring adjustment.
Fuel is fresh and appears clean. Carbs have had all internals replaced and only the housing has not been changed.
Im wondering if the wrong (too short) throttle cables were installed (since 3000 rpm with throttle slack and no apparent pinching) and idle screws not interfering with the carb slides.)
I have gapped the plugs but did not change them out.
Thoughts/suggestions what to try next?
Thank you!
