When I first got started riding, my father taught me to go over the entire bike and check the tightness of all fasteners when acquiring a new-to-me bike since you never know what has been touched and what hasn't, and we all know that trusting the PO is usually a bad idea. Can't say I've ever heard of anyone losing the cap nut on the steering stem before, while riding no less...."Things to check prior to heading out on a ride" file.
A slow, easy, surface street 16 miles to my shop and I show up without the steering tube cap? How exactly does that happen?
More proof that the struggle is real...
Really tightWrt the cap nut... Anyone happen to know the ft lb/torque spec for tightening it - you know... so I don't lose another one.![]()

>50lbs? That's definitely up there in the 'really tight' zone. lol.Really tightTook some digging and as often is the case, the older 350 FSM did not have the spec, it just said "tighten". Looks like steering stem nut is the one here in the 360 FSM, same size nut and threads.

I've never used a torque wrench on things that large on these bikes, generally just nice and tight based on it being pretty stout.>50lbs? That's definitely up there in the 'really tight' zone. lol.
I just grabbed a new cap so this post was exceptionally timely.
Thx for the info!!
