Engine number - CB250 G5

Hi,
I've just bought a 5 boxes and a frame for a Honda CB250 G5. In it was the bottom end of the engine. There is no engine number visible, see pic. Is this a deliberate attempt to remove the number and will it be suitable to rebuild and use in the frame, which has a V5 with correct frame number?

Moved to 250/350/360 Twins Engine section.

Yes, it does appear to be deliberate. Shouldn't look like that even if no number is stamped, like a new replacement upper case would be.
