first step removed gas tank. As usual full of crap. Petcock trashed. Broke hold down rubber. Removed points plate. see photo of left side points. When removing points plate, yellow wire fell out of the bullet connector. See also felt pad touching points connection. Removed timing advance unit and re lubed plate. 2 years ago removed left plug and put dexron trans fluid in cylinder could not break right plug loose. a month ago I sprayed pb blaster around plug and let sit for 3-4 weeks. Then this week sprayed freeze-off off on the plug and it came out real easy. Also see left plug wire broke off and 90 degree connector full of hard stuff.IMG_0357.JPGIMG_0406 - Copy.JPGIMG_0360.JPG

Bringing these rascals back to life is a test of fortitude and patience but the reward when you hear it run and even better ride it the first time is a very worthwhile experience!
Absolutely, couldn't have said it better.

Looks like the tabs holding the felt were pried open, maybe to clean or replace the felt. This is what it should look like.

Those spark plug caps are aftermarket. Not sure if the NGK caps are still available, you may have to search for them. Are you running resistor plugs?

Edit: the fuel tank hold down rubber is available from these guys.
