check list for " dead " starter

CM400T 1981
Got a new engine which started while on the donor bike.
Now nothing happens when pressing the starter button. Lights & blinkers work.
fuses are ok
I am guessing the starter motor cable connections?
any easy checks?

there is no neutral light unfortunately but the neutral is in

checking the solenoid now. is there a test for it? trying to use the one from the donor

yay, took the lights panel from the donor. had to touch the gear lever a little to get the green light and the bike started , happy.

there is no neutral light unfortunately but the neutral is in

Neutral safety interlock circuit is disconnected. Your solenoid will not operate without that connection to ground.

It’ll be a green and red or blue and red wire coming off the solenoid into the harness, plugs into the neutral indicator.
