Just saw this response, employed by the ever-weakening corporate wasteland we escaped, in an effort to bolster their position. I love that they do this because it's so patently counterproductive, which is great for us here at VHT where you get real people offering real answers that have been learned from real experience. Let's be real.

And I'm guessing it might not be there forever, so enjoy the silliness while you can still see it.

Don't get me started on 'chat bots'. I wanted to request a new hardware secure key for online banking, so I looked on their website for contact details and was told to use the 'Chat' option. When the bot finally understood what I wanted, it told me that it couldn't help, and gave me a phone number to ring. So I ring that number, which also has some sort of AS system ( Artificial Stupidity ), which parsed my request then instructed me to use the 'Chat' option on the website. Or hold to speak to a service person. Which I did. Problem with that, and I don't want to sound racist, the very pleasant female service person clearly did not have English as her first language. So we had a bit of a communication problem. New secure key on the way, the existing one is showing a low battery but still works for now. Well, it did until the service person disabled it, despite my request and her assurance that this wouldn't happen.

Not sure which is worse, AI systems, or cheap skate banks that outsource their help desks to Mumbai or similar sweat shops.

Honestly, I think they're about the same, both pretty much useless or extremely frustrating at the very least.

But these companies also brag about their "award-winning" customer service too.

I had a recent run-around with my cell phone service carrier. The third-party protection plan AI kept hanging up on me when I didn't guess which answer it wanted. A real live human tech with the service provider was very helpful, got the problem resolved, and suggested hitting the pound sign (#) repeatedly to get past the bots. I'll try it next time...

That's the stuff they don't tell you and it's great to learn one once in a while, especially when it's a provider you might have to contact multiple times. Saves a lot of yelling at the phone...

I've found that when dealing with useless phone tree bots, repeatedly saying "operator" or "real person" at least tries to get you redirected. Didn't work great for the DMV lately as I got stuck on hold for another 45 minutes, but has with other companies.

Say "representative" will also sometimes work to get to a real human.

The latest installment of ForaFrank (I'm with Boddy, it still sounds like it has something to do with hot dogs). I love how it SEEMS to become involved while not really saying anything new. Like no one knows how to compare part numbers.

It's just a lame attempt to make members of that damn-near ghost town think there's still someone at the wheel (and gives a crap). The visual says it all.

And only 42 posts, I wonder if that initiating posts, or all replies. It is probably programmed to respond if no REAL person responds after a set time. Full disclosure, I just browsed in there briefly, I refuse to stick around in there too long due to all the Ads and pop ups.

Only 42 posts after over 7 months of being in use is pretty sad, average of only 6 posts a month. For a while I suspected it was just Keith the admin initiating FF to engage with posts after they sat for a while, and honestly the time span doesn't seem to be consistent but then I haven't tracked every response from it.

We still have more than a few members who go there and answer posts, I'm quite sure they feel sorry for those at HT who sit and wait for days for something simple and then often get a poor reply anyway. Can't blame them, but that place would die sooner if none of us went there at all. My computer browser ad blocker takes care of most of their money-related garbage, but the few times I've tried to briefly look at HT on my phone was a horrible experience.

More fun with ForaFrankenfurter :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

"getting the throttle cable routed just right around the headlight bucket so it doesn't bind is always a tricky puzzle"

Just right around the headlight bucket? Tricky puzzle? I love how it basically emulates the question instead of providing any actual information. And it took 4 days to "see" it as well.

HT has been counting on all those legacy posts we left behind to keep attracting new members for the advertising dollars, and it's still working albeit more slowly these days. But with very few new and informative posts and/or solutions to problems as time goes by, combined with the constant influx of new members joining only to leave soon after due to so little activity, that pipeline of new members will eventually dry up. And I'm so looking forward to the day.
