1973 CL350 Restore

You've got the brake lever on the rear hub upside down.
Also I am extremely envious of all that shiny new zinc plated hardware.
Ha! Ya, I would have figured that out soon enough, but thanks.

I must admit this bike does POP. It is enjoyable to just sit and look at. A very fun project.

Even though the Japanese DID chain is close 3 times the price of a Chinese chain I had to go with the DID.
I love the choice of chain, but if that's an o-ring chain as it appears to be on the box, it's going to hit the clutch lifter arm when you pull the clutch and will destroy the lifter arm in a hurry. I buy the base version DID 530 chain, not much more expensive than a cheapie but DID quality.

In the older Britbike world there are clearance issues with the cases that preclude using a 530 X or O-ring chain. Some people get their sprockets thinned down on a Blanchard surface grinder and then use a 520 X or O-ring chain. If anyone has done that on a Honda, I haven't heard about it.

I think there are some 520 kits for our twins, but I just lube my chains and replace as needed with the simple and cheaper old school basic chain from DID

I'm working on the routing of the cable to the starter motor. I am quite confident I have the first half of the routing correct, BUT the back half has me puzzling.

Does the cable route through the frame tunnel, or another spot??

That's very interesting LDR - THANKS. My bike did not have guide clips on those bolts and were most likely tossed at some point. OEM are unobtainium so I am looking for a substitute.

The smoke test went well today! The loom from Matthew at Sparck Moto is top notch. Matthew was also very responsive with the few questions I had.
This is why we've recommended Sparck Moto for years now, but it's always nice to hear the quality products and support from him continue.

Beautiful. Your painter is really great. The color looks just right. I'm kind of in the same boat with retrocb side covers needing that blue but will keep my original tank paint. Did he have the color custom matched or was it a very close off the shelf color? I'd be happy with something very close in a spray can.

My painter knew the color code somehow.

You and Jim have the two best looking CL350s I've seen since I saw them on the showroom floor in the early '70s. Big congrats to you Dave, your work is stellar.

Couldn't have pulled off the restoration to this level without this forum. Major kudos to the crew that keeps it running.

And a patch riveted on one of the mufflers, which is not surprising due to the age and corrosive effects of the buildup in exhaust pipes when allowed to sit.

It's, it's so beautiful!
I'm going to just shove my crusty project in the corner now.

No, seriously, it's gorgeous. The re-plated bits really set it off! It's a trophy winner for sure. :D

I gassed it up and was expecting a drama free start. Didn't work out that way. All I have been able to get out of it is a few farts and an occasional backfire.

I have double checked timing - spot on.
Plugs are throwing nice spark
Valve clearances checked
Plenty of compression.

Scratching my head at the moment.
