This may be a silly question, however. In the process of hooking up the gas lines to each carb. The gas tank petcock has two gas line spigots which I am not real familiar with, I assume one goes to each carb, is that correct? Sorry for poor picture.cl175 gas petcock.jpg

Got the gas line thing all sorted out and the bike starts fine but revs at wide open throttle when it starts , the slides are all the way down as when the throttle is completely closed and still revs very high. The cable is new and seems to work fine, it's revving wide open without touching the throttle grip. What am missing here ??

If you had the slides out of the carbs, you could have put the left slide in the right carb and vice-versa. Check to see if the cutaways at the bottom of the slides are facing the air cleaners.

Most common is slides in the carbs backwards (flipped sides). Either that or an air leak between the carb and the head.

Check that the carbs are attached to the manifold and the head with no air leaks. Easy test is put to the choke on and see if the revs remain high. If they do you have a leak.

The cutaways are facing the air cleaner, I'll try exchanging the slide's though.

If the cutaways are actually facing the air cleaners, then that isn't the problem and you will create one if you switch sides with them. Check the splitter junction box under the tank, the upper part of the cable may have gotten pulled out of the housing.

If they’re facing out that’s not the issue then. It’s either stuck slide or air leak.

I lied, I did have the slides in wrong. I exchanged them and its a little better, but still not getting the rpm's down to where they should be.
I attached a pic, that is as low as the slide's go, shouldn't they go lower? The throttle stop screw does little in trying to adjust this.cl175 slide.jpg

Make sure that little splitter is seated correctly like @ancientdad pointed out. One or both can pop out and get hung up while you’re adjusting everything. Those slides look like they’re still not seating all the way.

If it’s not the cable, it’s usually only one side that causes an issue like this so start by removing a plug wire when it begins to run away - it’ll be really obvious which side was “driving”. Then start checking for air leaks around the manifold. If you replaced the orings in there, they can pop out of their seat when newer and feel solid but have a gap in there.

I don't think the slides are seating down enough, what would be preventing them from seating further down, is my cable to short? They are adjusted to full length both at the grip and at the carb, the throttle stop screw does nothing.

Your throttle cable is holding the slides open too far. Time to check it, especially at the splitter.
I think I may have found the issue. The cables are fine at the splitter, but to length them I removed the lock nut on the cable adjuster on top of the carb and it seems to be the answer, had it running at a decent idle, just need to do some fine tuning yet and hopefully problem solved.

if the slides move freely in the carb, it’s got to be the cable then. Try releasing the throttle tube portion and see if that allows them to drop.

Edit - just saw your last post. Is the cable by chance one of those Thai aftermarket cable sets? I had one useable cable out of the whole set.

No, it wasn't in one of those sets. I bought it from 4into1 and the quality of the cable is pretty good, the inner cable should just have been 1/4" longer. I thank you guys for the slide exchange heads up, it's something I should have caught. I think with the adjuster lock nut deletion I mentioned, I have gained enough length to remedy the problem.
