How do I remove sprocket CM400A

Okay, there’s no circlip and Clymer says tap through from other side of wheel.
I’m doing this. My taps have changed to TAPS. Before I increase my percussive maintenance, am I missing something?

There is a C clip behind that rubber dust seal, that holds the sprocket on the rim.

Also Part number 3, is a shim washer, it can become worn, this will let the sprocket move/rock too much in and out, so if the sprocket assembly is loose replace it.
my CB400N uses the same parts and have pulled the C clip groove of both my rims, so it needs to be tight.
If you are replacing the sprocket with a non oem sprocket you may need the spacer that is press fit into the sprocket.
 
Hi beans, thanks for the input. Mine is a 1981 A. Even though I mention that, CMSL shows a circlip, but I cannot see one. If mine had been left out, there still should be a groove; there isn’t one.
What am I not seeing?

The wheel bearings do tap out from the other side. Pretty hefty taps.

Thanks EzPete, I’ll check in the morning, cat on lap, can’t move….
Wish I hadn’t removed the dust seal that was covering the bearings… buggered it, new one ordered.

Thanks for mentioning this Beans. I saw the new sprocket moved sideways when offering it up. I’m sure I wouldn’t have thrown away the old assembly without checking, but you never know! I possibly did offer up the new sprocket following your comment though!
What an obvious big circlip when you remove the right dust cover 🙄
 
Dont forget the spacer thats a pressed fit I to the sprocket if youre changing them. Ive seen people replace them without this and its incredibly unsafe.
 
Thanks Maraakate, that’s what Bear had mentioned. I offered up the new sprocket and the sideways movement was obvious. You’d be relying on the cush rubbers for movement in all directions! I could easily see a nightmare situation if left unnoticed.
I did notice my replacement sprocket is 36 teeth and not 35 like the original. Cor, the acceleration increase, I’m going to struggle keeping the front wheel down. 😉😊
 
If you need that spacer, DSS has them and I used one recently. Fit well into a JT sprocket but could be different if you are using another brand.
