I was pressing my oil seal into place, but like an idiot i went about a 1-2mm too far. FSM warns against this.

Anyway should I buy another expensive seal or is this okay? Sorry if dumb question i’m just trying to be thorough

I'm not familiar enough with your engine to say if it would be a problem or not, but please remember to either mention your bike model or put it in your signature.

Sorry. Honda Twin star 185.

I'm reading the service manual and it makes a point about not pressing in the crank seal beyond the front of the case.

It does not mention the same thing about the transmission output shaft seal. There also is no oil valley hole so i'm thinking it doesn't make a difference.

Based on your picture and the parts fiche, I'd guess it would be okay. Seems like you'd have to go deeper than where your seal is right now to actually touch the transmission bearing.

i ended up pulling it. Going to source another one of the same size locally.

this time around I 3-D printed some simple tools go over the shafts and help me install the seal flush with the surface.

Here’s one for the shifter seal. The one for the transmission is currently printing.

Just curious did you apply a little Hondabond to the outside of the seal before installing them to help prevent another blowout?

No. I’m concerned if I do that it’ll be impossible to remove

I asked my retired mechanical engineer friend and he recommended against that. He said if the bore and shaft is in good condition i shouldn’t worry about it 🤷‍♀️.

I also checked the PCV and it’s working.

I can’t help but still worry it’ll happen again though
