Hello all!
Having issues with BOTH of my Hondamatics!
I'll try to keep my rambling down.
1978 CB750a-
-I've had this bike since February.
-Bought it running, but not well. Towed it to a friends for cosmetic work.
-Added hard bags from the 400a. Fresh coat of paint for the whole thing. Shined up some chrome.
-Removed an external radio, added LED under lighting, windshield and voltmeter with USB plugs. Swapped out brake light and signals.
-Rode it home 300 miles back to Boston in May. Could feel the bike didn't love hanging out around 30mph. Felt like it was too fast for 1st but too slow for 2nd.
-Went into the shop in May for a complete once over.
-Did carbs, oil and filters, tires and tubes, throttle cable, choke cable and swapped my seat out for one I provided.
This bike was in the shop a long time and just shy of $2500 for the work.
Only paid $800 for the bike so I don't mind the total since it should be 100% at this point.
But no...
July I went to pick it up! Yay!
Right off the bat attempting to leave the shop the bike would 'go' and sputter to a stop.
After the third or fourth try one of the shop guys came to check it out. He got it going and went around the block.
He said it really just needs that long to warm up...
Took a few tries later that night but got it going and made it home.
About two weeks later I got all packed up for a trip back to NY. About 300 miles there, 300-400 while there, and 300 home.
A few tries again to get it going but once its in gear and going, its good!
I live just a few turns from the entrance to the highway so limited times to stop/start before I'm cruising.
150 miles in, I stop for gas and had the same issue getting out of the gas station!!
That's when I definitely knew there is a bigger issues here because it was plenty warm at this point!!
Made it the rest of the way, only issue was getting to a complete stop-- 50% chance of stalling out essentially.
After trying to get going the next day to meet up with my group, multiple instances of me being unable to 'go', having to roll through stop signs, while leaving parking lots and literally walking the bike through busy intersections, I made it back to the place where I had the cosmetic work to park it.
Luckily was able to borrow a car that got me almost back to Boston.
Rented a truck in Boston and went back to NY to pick up the bike and dropped it off at the shop.
Still waiting for updates on that bike.
So far have heard that they got their hands on some year specific manuals and are looking at two additional adjustment points that they missed before....
So here I sit on my deck, sans bikes. Beautiful weather here!
Going moto camping this weekend in my Geo Tracker so I can at least get some wind therapy, even if I'm on four wheels...
