One sees exhaust pipes available but lots of them have burned off the flange at the edge of the header pipe where they meet the cylinder head (example below.) They still want strong money for those, that's for sure.

So...any of you humps want to offer me advice as I contemplate welding a ring on the end to make a more serviceable exhaust? This one is from the race bike, I've been running it like that but am not super happy about it

Is this for a sloper? I have (had?) a set of headers for a sloper, not great cosmetically but sound. Been trying to off them for a few years every time I go to AZ but haven't had any takers. They might still be there, they might have been tossed... But they're yours for postage if you want them (next time I go AZ, which won't be for a few months, so I know I'm not being that helpful at this moment... and you're looking for welding advice anyway), if they're still there (and it's a sloper).

Thanks CC, the offer is very much appreciated. I'm gonna dig through my buddy's pile, he has some CL160 exhausts that may work for the CL175, they are both slopers, but I need to actually have them in the flesh to see what'll work.

This is probably a good reason to see if this new to me Hobart welder can be employed...I note that Honda simply enlarged the ends of the headers with bell ends, slipped a collar inside and then used some kind of spot weld to secure it. I'm just gonna weld or braze on a disc.

More exhaust fun'n'games. The previous post occurred because the only way I could think of to eliminate or confirm my muffler was rattling on this CL175K0 sloper I'm building was to put a known non-rattling exhaust on it, which was from the race bike. This bike has a custom 2 into 1 header a guy fabricated for me 15 years ago, and I used a shortened dirt bike muffler on it because I don't like being around open pipe race bikes, neither do my neighbors.

Conclusion: I think the "good" muffler has something loose that rattles on deceleration/off load that can't be troubleshot by shaking it. Listen for yourself...and it feels like the problem is AT the muffler, as compared to the muffler simply serving as megaphone for a malady upstream of it. There's a photo of the race muffler here also, yes the heat shield is a license plate, don't judge

I believe -- but don't quote me on this -- that the 160 and 175 sloper headers aren't interchangeable. Completely not sure about that, but definitely worth checking. Might also be possible to cut out the tip of a 160 exhaust and weld it to the end of the 175 if they aren't interchangeable (and the tips are the same). And if you want the headers down the road (for spares or 5hi7s and giggles) the offer stands (next time I'm in AZ).
