I recently started restoration of this 1967 CL160 (vin# CL1601021499). I am about 20% into it. I have found and purchased about 75% of the needed parts for the chassis.
Here is how it started out:

Here is the frame, swingarm, stands, msc. parts after blast and powdercoat:

I will update from time to time as I make progress...

How is the condition of your muffler ?? That’s gotta be the hardest parts to find if original is unrepairable !!!!

Yakeye, Hi,
My muffler and headpipes are in decent shape, but I need the front heat shield. The one I have is cracked and missing about a third of it's length.
Also, my bike is silver (Honda Cloud Silver, I believe), but I am not sure which pieces are painted that silver. Several of my body pieces have been repainted at some point, and only the side covers and the bottom fork legs are currently silver. Does anyone out there know what was originally silver on a 67 CL160?
Thanks,

Hi Dave,
Nice, a true CL, not a D kit CB. Both stands and even the engine guard, wow.
It may take a while to find or fabricate the heat shield.
You could try the 2 FB groups (private now) that are hopefully still out there.
Silver fenders too, of course. I didn't know the forks were painted, not clear coated.

Is the fuel tank supposed to be silver?20240202_161926.jpg
This is my SV750 (Suzuki) Indian FTR tribute bike that i built 6 years ago. Bored and stroked SV650, GSXR 1000 front end, many other one-off pieces.

Nice shop with lots of space and well set up with tools and machines. Looks like you have other bikes hidden away under those covers too. Unique grinder and buffing wheel combination there. I have never seen that setup before.
That front heat shield may show up on EBay, or other forums such as FB as noted. It looks close to the 1968 CL175 one on my bike. It too is a two piece affair.

Progress is slow, but I have the rear wheel polished up and relaced with stainless spokes from Buchannan's.
Also the skid plated is welded up, blasted, and repainted.

And the seat has been rebuilt, blasted, painted, and recovered. Not real happy with the quality of the seat cover- I took a chance and ordered a cheapy off Evil Bay.20250204_112627.jpg

Those spring frame trampoline seats need a top layer of thin soft foam or quilter's batting to hide the little lump's. It worked on my Dream CA77 seats. Nice hub/wheel shine up.

PugMug, Sorry for the delay in responding to your question about the shocks, I have been dealing with health issues with my better half.
I searched all over for OE shocks that were in decent shape, no luck, so I tried to find aftermarket replacements the correct length, no luck,
but I finally found these cheapy replacement shocks for a Suzuki GS650 on evil bay. The length is right, but I had to make some bushings as the
mounting diameters were larger. I will still keep an eye out for a decent set of original shocks, but these will do for now.

No worries! I think those shocks look pretty sharp and are definitely good fill-ins until you find some nice OEMs.

Hi Dschmalenberg,
Just wanted to comment on your forum name photo. I also had a 2003 RC51. Really awesome and unique Honda sportbike. Unfortunately, at my age it was a little too extreme of a riding position and I sold it a couple of years ago. I like the high pipes on your bike, looks great.IMG_2046.jpeg

Hi Ancientdad, I, too am a little old for the RC51 at 72 (almost 73). I did swap the clip-ons side to side, and that helped quite a bit, but I am still about done at 50 miles or so.
I don't want to rack up a lot of miles on it anyway, so that works out for me. The resale value on the RC51 is going up pretty fast, but I like riding it too much to sell it, so the value really doesn't matter that much, now does it? I also have an Aprilia V4 Tuono 1100 that is more comfy, but I am going to end up with a MAJOR speeding ticket with it, so I'm putting it up for sale in the next couple of weeks to remove the temptation... Got the engine on my CL160 powerwashed, tore down (top end), scuffed up, and painted the bottom end today. I'll try to take some photos tomorrow.
