CB160 Blue on White maybe

Final pics of the not so fascinating side stand mod.
The 1/2" x8" carriage bolt through the rear brake lever frame tube was the only way or place to mount the stand. I did drill a hole for the original cotter pin to keep the brake lever on, but the domed head of the bolt also does it.
The CB160's just don't have a good way to mount a side stand.

The original spring from the scavenged Dream kickstand was less there than not from rust, but a spring from my old pull out sofa bed seemed about the right stuff.

Lots of filing on the stop for the stand and welding an additional 1/4" of larger and thicker foot pad on the bottom of the stand. A thick coat of engine paint on the heavily pitted stand and it's hinge bracket after a weeks soak in my 1 year old batch of Deox-C (I'm surprised it still did it's job, if very slowly).
I'll add a rubber bumper to it of old black garden hose, glued or tie wired in place.

This bike and project still has a few things to do:
Low charging when headlight is on.
Alloy rims on extra wheels waiting to be done.
Resurrect the OEM carbs and, of course, potscrubber exhaust packing adjustments, as needed.

The starter clutch is pretty bad, almost looks like a used part that shoulda been passed over. Pitted rollers, pitted sprocket surface and worn through spring caps. Surprising that the springs were decent looking, probably someones attempt to get it functional. I was trying to use it to do a compression check and any load would cause it slip and just spin.
On the left is the 160 clutch
In the center is a spare 305 clutch. The springs from it are as tiny as peach fuzz, supposedly all the same part numbers. As you can see the rollers are 2mm longer, so won't fit. The caps are the same though.
On the right is a CA95 150 clutch. All the same but it's sprocket won't work on the 160.
Waiting on ebay to bring me a decent clutch and sprocket. $30 some wasn't too bad.
It's weird how the press fit cover/side plate slips on the cast clutch body and blocks easy screw removal. Those screws got pretty ugly, but I think one could replace springs, caps and rollers without removal.
This all could be a sign there are other engine surprises.

Can this thing make noise at idle? I have a weird noise that to me SOUNDS like a cam chain but it is coming from this side of the engine and my starter works but sounds not good.

Starter clutch shouldn't make any noise once done using the starter. A slipping starter clutch squeals but doesn't sound much like a cam chain. Make sure your cam chain is correctly routed through the tensioner, or it will be loose.

As mentioned, the starter clutch should be quiet if all is well. The only noise you sometimes hear when the clutch reaches the point where it starts slipping could be the clutch assembly moving on the 3 screws into the alternator as they come loose. It might be a low knocking sound at idle and if left too long the movement of the screws will wallow out the screw holes in the rotor. If you could get a video of it we might be able to tell. But since this is @ballbearian's thread, please post the video in a new thread of your own for the topic.
